The channels are closed even when their membrane potential is within those of cells, however when the membrane's potential is increased then the channels become active. When the channels become active, they allow the flow of sodium ions, which increase the potential of membranes. The fast inward flow of sodium ions result in changing the polarity of the membrane and as a result they become inactive. The potassium channels after that are activated , and it is a flow of potassium ions . This causes the membrane is returned in its normal state. A transient negative shift , also known as refractory interval prevents further travelling of the action potential. Action potential is the outcome from the voltage-gated channels in the plasma membrane of a cell. A voltage-gated Ion Channel is in fact a collection made of proteins. They remain inside the plasma membrane. These proteins produce motion potential because it can produce positive feedback loop. Membrane current is responsible setting the parameters of ion channels. The action potential is created whenever the positive feedback proceeds with full intensity. Its duration and amplitude are controlled by the bio-physical characteristics of the ion channel voltage-gated. A variety of Ion Channels are known that produce positive feedback and produce these potentials. The sodium channels with voltage are involved in the creation of fast potentials like those of nerve impulses. More slow ones such as those produced in muscle cells are mediated by the calcium Ion channels.The most researched voltage-gated channel are sodium ion networks that play an important role in greater speed of nerve impulse conduction.
