Action potential is an event where the potential for the membrane for a specific cell initially increases then decreases. It is a characteristic property and characteristic of a lot of cell types in animals, such as muscles cells, nerve cells, and Endocrine cells. Certain plant cells also produce them. Neurons play a crucial role in cell-to-cell communication. Pancreas beta cells have beta cells. action potentials are linked with that release of insulin. Plasma membranes are made up of a special kind of voltage-gated ion channel for producing action potential. The channels are closed while the membrane's current potential within that of the cell . However should the membrane potential increase then the channels are activated. Once the channels are open, they permit an inward flow of sodium ions. This in turn increases the potential of membranes. The rapid inward flow sodium ions affects the membrane's polarity and as a result they become inactive. Following this, potassium channels become activated , and that is followed by an outward flow potassium ions , causing the membrane is returned to its resting state. The transient negative change known as refractory is a way to stop back forward motion of an action potential. In animal cells , two types of these potentials exist, identified, for instance, one which is produced from voltage-gated potassium channels and the second that can be produced by voltage-gated calcium channels.

Nearly all cells maintain a voltage difference between their outside and indoor environment. The voltage of the cell is measured in milli volts (mV). The voltage of a typical animal cell is -70mV. In the majority of cells no voltage fluctuations are known to be present, however in some cells this is a typical feature. Some cells also show oscillations between up and down when they increase and decrease in voltage. The time between these potentials can vary widely. In brain cells the up and down process of action possible are performed in less than a thousandth of a second while in different types of cells, the processes can last several seconds. The electrical power of a cell in the animal kingdom is dependent upon the membrane structure. Cell membrane is made up of an lipid layer and proteins. The lipid layer acts as an insulation.

All animal cells are electrically polarized as they maintain the voltage differential known as membrane potential. For neurons, axonsand dendrites and the cell body all have different electrical properties. The most excitable component of neurons is the axon hillock. However, axons and cells body are also excited. At the axon , the resting potential is 70 mV and the threshold voltage is -55 MV. Synaptic connections to the nerve cause depolarization, which causes the membrane potential to rise or fall. An action potential is created once enough depolarization accumulates and the membrane potential reaches the threshold.

Action potential is the result of the activity of voltage-gated ion channels located in the plasma membrane of a cell. Ion channels that are voltage-gated are actually a cluster made of proteins. They remain in the plasma membrane. It generates an action potential in order to trigger a positive feedback loop. Membrane Potential is responsible for managing the state of Ion channels. The action potential is created in the event that the positive feedback process proceeds with full intensity. The time and amplitude are controlled by the bio-physical characteristics of the ion channel voltage-gated. Numerous types of ion-channels have been discovered that cause positive feedback and create these potentials. The sodium channels that are voltage-gated participate in the creation of more powerful potentials like those of nerve impulses. More slow ones such as those produced by muscles are controlled by the calcium ion channels. The most studied voltage-gated Ion channels are sodium ion channels involved in quicker nerve impulse conduction.
