The transient negative change known as refractory time prevents the back traveling of the action voltage. In the animal cell, generally two types of these potentials exist, understood, one that is generated by the voltage-gated calcium channels, while the other results from voltage-gated calcium channels.

Action potentials are produced when enough depolarization has occurred and the membrane potential reaches the threshold.

A voltage-gated ion canal is actually a cluster of proteins which remain in the plasma and produce movement potential because it is able to create the positive feedback loop. Membrane voltage is responsible for monitoring the status of these channels. The action potential is created during the time that the feedback cycle occurs at full strength. The time and amplitude of the action are determined by the bio-physical properties associated with the voltage-gated ion channel. There are a variety of ion channel types that exist that can generate positive feedback mechanisms and lead to the generation of these potentials. These sodium channels are involved in generation of faster potentials , similar to those that result from nerve impulses.
