In the cells of animals, generally two varieties of these possibles are described, for instance, one through voltage-gated sodium channels, while the other can be produced by voltage-gated calcium channels.

A voltage-gated , ion channel is actually a group composed of proteins that remain in the plasma membrane. This produces action potential because it can generate a positive feedback loop. Membrane current is responsible maintaining the state of the ion channels. Action potential is generated by the positive feedback cycle that occurs at full strength. The duration and the amplitude are controlled by the bio-physical characteristics of the ion channels that are voltage-gated. Several types of ion channels are recognized that create positive feedback circuits that ultimately create these potentials. They are involved in generation of faster possibles that resemble those produced by nerve impulse. These are the ones that are slower, similar to those found in the muscle cells are controlled by calcium Ion channels.The most extensively studied voltage-gated Ion channels are the sodium ion channel that participate in greater speed of nerve impulse conduction.
