Nearly all cells maintain the voltage of their outside and indoor environment. The voltage of the cell is measured in millivolts (mV). The typical voltage for an animal cell is around -70 mV. In case of cells, neurons and axons, dendrites and cell body have different electrical characteristics. One of the most exciting parts of an individual neuron is the hillock but axon and cell body can also be stimulated. In the axon hillock, the resting potential is -70mV and the threshold potential is 55 MV. Synaptic connections to the nerve trigger depolarization which causes the membrane potential to increase or fall. Action potentials are produced when enough depolarization happens and the membrane potential is at the threshold.

The action potential results of activity of voltage-gated ion channels that are found in the plasma membranes of cells. The voltage-gated channel is in fact a collection of proteins which remain inside the plasma membrane. These proteins produce action potential because it can generate a positive feedback loop. Membrane potential is responsible for monitoring the status of Ion channels. The action potential is created in the event that the positive feedback process takes place at full intensity. The duration as well as the magnitude are determined by the biophysical properties of the ion channels with voltage-gated voltage. A variety of Ion Channels are recognized that create positive feedback mechanisms and lead to the generation of these potentials. Voltage-gated sodium channels are involved in the creation of more powerful potentials that mimic those of nerve impulses. They are slower than those that occur by muscles cells are controlled by the calcium Ion channels.The most thoroughly studied voltage-gated Ion channels are the sodium channels, which play a role in more rapid nerve impulse conduction.
