The transient shift in negative known as refractory is a way to stop back forward motion of an action potential. In the animal cell, generally two kinds of these potentials can be acknowledged, one of which is created by voltage-gated sodium channels, while the other results from calcium channels that are voltage-gated.

The synaptic inputs to the neurons lead to depolarization. This causes the membrane potential to rise or fall. Action potentials are produced when enough depolarization develops until the membrane potential is at a threshold value.

Action potential is the outcome of activity of voltage-gated ion channels that reside in the plasma membranes of cells. An ion channel that is voltage-gated is actually a cluster of proteins , which are encased in the plasma membrane. It generates motion potential because it can be the cause of the positive feedback loop. Membrane potential is accountable for control of the activity of these channels. The action potential is created whenever the positive feedback proceeds with full intensity. The frequency and duration are determined by the bio-physical properties of the voltage-gated Ion Channels. Many kinds of ionchannels are identified that generate positive feedback mechanisms and produce these potentials. Voltage-gated sodium-channels are involved in the creation of fast potentials like those of nerve impulses. They are slower than those that occur in muscles cells are controlled by the calcium Ion channels.The most thoroughly studied voltage-gated ion channels are the sodium ion channels that are involved in faster nerve impulse conduction.
