The action potential results in the function of voltage-gated channels in the plasma membranes of cells. An ion channel that is voltage-gated is in fact a collection of proteins that remain embedded in plasma membranes and generates movement potential because it is able to generate positive feedback loop. Membrane voltage is responsible for maintaining the state of the Ion channels. Action potential is generated by the positive feedback cycle that occurs at full strength. Its duration and amplitude are controlled by the bio-physical characteristics of the voltage-gated ionchannels. Several types of ion channels are identified that generate positive feedback processes that produce these potentials. Voltage-gated sodium channels play a role with the creation of higher potentials similar to nerve impulses. The slower ones, like those generated in muscles cells are controlled by calcium ion channels.The the most intensely studied voltage-gated channel are sodium ion channels participating in faster nerve impulse communication.
